Ginn Company Steps Up
Best way to jump on the development bandwagon
Long left in the development dust of the rest of the Vail Valley, the funky former railroad and mining town of Minturn, just off the backside of Vail Mountain, took a big step toward joining its resort brethren May 20.
Minturn voters overwhelmingly (by an 87 to 13 percent margin) rejected a referendum aimed at overturning the town council’s unanimous February decision to annex 4,300 acres of private land for the proposed Battle Mountain private ski and golf resort, which will include 1,700 homes, a ski area nearly the size of Beaver Creek, two gondolas and two 18-hole golf courses.
The Florida-based Ginn Company in turn will deliver nearly $200 million in public benefits such as a new rec center, water treatment plant, sidewalks and road upgrades, a scholarship fund, bike paths and other improvements, including cleanup of areas contaminated by mining.
