John A. Dobson Arena provides a wide array of recreational activities for the Vail community. The arena, a 35,000 square foot multi-purpose facility, is the largest of its type on the Western Slope of Colorado. Dobson Arena is the site for the Vail Figure Skating Festival and the Vail Invitational Skating Championships. Dobson Arena has also become a favorite stop on the training schedule for NHL teams like the St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils. Locally, Dobson Arena is home to the Vail Junior Hockey Club and Skating Club of Vail.For the recreational skater, Dobson Arena hosts open skating sessions and lessons for all ages and abilities. Dobson arena also offers a wide array of hockey options for both the beginning youngster to the seasoned adult player.
