Caberet Nights, Local Celebs and More..
Inside a cozy Vail Village bistro at One Willow Bridge Road near the International Bridge, local performers dish up Broadway music along with food and refreshments. Until December 19, shows will be Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and then nightly (except Christmas and New Year’s) 5:30-7:30 and 8-10 pm. Singing waiters and waitresses entertain as they serve.
It’s an “intimate” space rather than a roomy venue and is the brainchild of owner Robert McNichols of Daedalus Real Estate Advisors of Phoenix, who received the help of Rayla Kundolf, director of nearby Masters Gallery. Kundolf is the inspiration and artistic director; local piano teacher Dawn Poss is the musical director.
Marketplace on Meadow Drive offers a group of establishments that are open 8am to 8pm. They include the Bistro, Café, Market, Crêperie, Tavern, and Wine Shop. No reservations are necessary.

LOCAL CELEBS
Ryan and Trista Sutter, who famously met and wed on ABC’s Bachelorette reality TV show and now live in Avon’s Wildridge neighborhood, announced to the world in a magazine spread in October that their second child is on its way.
The couple had a boy, Max, in 2007.
Meanwhile, professional kayaker and philanthropist Brad Ludden of Gypsum, who founded the local First Descents cancer camp for kids, might as well have been trying out for the next episode of The Bachelor when he was named Cosmopolitan’s Hottest Bachelor of 2008.
That honor landed him in the magazine and on the TV talk-show circuit, including an appearance on NBC’s Today show. For more information visit www.firstdescents.org
VAIL’S LEGENDARY DR. JACK ECK TAKES ON NEW ROLE
Dr. Jack Eck, one of the Vail Valley Medical Center’s pioneering physicians and a beloved community “doc” within the Vail Valley, has accepted a new role as executive vice president of clinical program development and community outreach, effectively the ambassador for the VVMC, a revered institution that he was instrumental in expanding.
Eck, a physician in Vail since 1971, is renowned as one of the top diagnosticians in Colorado. Early in his practice, he sought expertise from specialists and physicians throughout North America and helped create a community hospital with big-city resources and expertise.
It was among the first of Colorado’s Western Slope facilities to have an ICU, obstetrics and gynecology department and evolved quickly to service both the orthopedic-related and medical incidents from Vail Mountain in the early years. Cardiac-related services soon grew at the VVMC, as did the cancer center and hospice care.
Eck was the first physician to serve on the Vail Ski Patrol and still skis with the patrol each week and serves as their medical advisor in overseeing all medical protocols and training throughout the year.
WESTIN RIVERFRONT RESORT DEBUTS
With one of the most opulent opening parties in recent Vail Valley history, the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa debuted last September. Located in Avon along the Eagle River and at the base of Beaver Creek Resort, the Vail Valley’s newest luxury resort is a full-service condominium/hotel featuring 210 residence-style accommodations ranging from studio suites to three-bedrooms complete with custom designed contemporary furnishings, large kitchens, fireplaces, LCD televisions and more.
The cornerstone of a $500 million resort development also features Avondale, a signature restaurant by acclaimed chef Thomas Salamunovich, the 23,000-square-foot Spa Anjali, and the Riverfront Express Gondola that delivers skiers to Beaver Creek Mountain.
The Westin Riverfront is being built “green” from the bottom up and is on track to become Colorado’s first high-end hotel to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
