The Beav’ Gets its Flavor On!

Beaver Creek Resort, in partnership with Bon Appétit magazine, will become a culinary paradise for guests to sample world-class cuisine while learning the tastes and flavors of North and South America.

The Bon Appétit Culinary & Wine Focus Jan. 28-31, 2009, embraces a world-view in its programming and opportunities for guests to get an up-close and personal experience with a host of culinary masterminds.

This event provides an opportunity for guests to join world renowned chefs for a weekend of both educational and palate pleasing events.

“Supreme” Entertainment

Live Concert with Mary Wilson of the Supremes

Experience a high-octane concert with legendary singer Mary Wilson of the Supremes. The concert will commence at 7 p.m. with specially chosen sips and bites in the Vilar Center lobby beginning at 6 p.m., prior to the show.

Guest chefs featured pre-show: Shawn McClain, Alex Atala, Joey Campanaro and Mara Salles.

Mary Wilson is best known as a member of the Motown soul and pop group The Supremes. Wilson is the only Supreme who remained in the group from the time it was formed in 1959, as The Primettes, until the very end, when the group was disbanded in 1977.

The Supremes enjoyed twelve US number-one hit records.

Cooking Classes, Wine and Spirits Seminars

Master Cooking Class & Wine Pairing Luncheon: Join Brasilian chef Mara Salles from Tordesilhas in São Paulo for an exclusive, hands-on cooking class featuring her authentic Brasilian cuisine and wines from Reynolds Family Winery.

Restaurateur, food expert and entertainment authority Donatella Arpaia is the special host of the event.

Sushi Workshop: Join Master Sushi Chef Hidekazu Tojo of Tojo’s in Vancouver, Canada, for this spectacular sushi making demonstration followed by a sushi tasting.

Brasilian Cocktail Seminar: Mixologists lead an educational sampling of classic Brasilian cocktail recipes along with paired tastings from the Golden Eagle Inn’s Chef Marshall Blanchard. Hosted by Bon Appétit Wine & Spirits Consultant Steve Olson.

Argentine Wine Seminar: Join Bon Appétit for a tasting journey through one of the world’s most fantastic wine regions. Accented with small-plate selections, this seminar is the ultimate beginning to a love of Argentine wine.

Hosted by Bon Appétit Wine & Spirits Consultant Steve Olson and Spago’s Master Sommelier, Sean Razee.

Subaru Snowshoe Excursion and Luncheon: Snowshoe across the most picturesque spots on Beaver Creek Mountain with Beaver Creek’s expert guides.

Afterward, enjoy a three-course luncheon at Grouse Mountain Grill with Chef Kerry Simon. Includes snowshoe rentals, guide, transportation and lunch.

Celebrity Chef Ski Race and Awards Luncheon: Guests have the opportunity to race with celebrity chefs as they heat up the slopes in this head-to-head competition. After the race, ticket-holders enjoy a luncheon at Beaver Creek Chophouse.

Culinary Showcases

MasterChef Challenge: At this spirited Iron-Chef-style competition, guests witness as chefs are given a surprise ingredient and 20 minutes to create winning dishes.

Attendees also enjoy sips, bites and samples in the lobby pre-show and between rounds. Announced by Cat Cora, Bon Appétit Executive Chef. Judged by Barbara Fairchild, Donatella Arpaia and Kyle MacLaughlin.

Grand Tasting: The culmination to the weekend’s festivities, culinary and pastry tastings from participating celebrity chefs and accomplished masters from Beaver Creek’s finest restaurants are accented by wine, beer and spirits from around the world.

This year’s sponsors include: Cavit, Hunt’s, McCormick Gourmet Collection, Quaker True Delights, Subaru and Tillamook.

In between powder runs and tee shots, long-time Vail local Miles Burton, habitually observes local government.
