The Connoisseur’s Trail a Rousing Success
East Meadow Drive lit up last Friday evening as The Connoisseur’s Trail art and epicurean “walk” opened Vail Village’s weekend-long Gourmet on the Gore culinary extravaganza.
The twilight of a crisp and clear Rocky Mountain day enhanced the senses as visitors strolled through a variety of galleries appreciating not only the artistic selections but also samples of specialties from some of the resort’s finest restaurants impeccably paired with just the right wines.
For example, we first stopped by Pismo Gallery where Chef Paul Ferzacca of the famed — and neighboring — La Tour restaurant offered sumptuous Chorizo stuffed medjool dates and Neuskie's bacon with smoked piquillo pepper tomato sauce, all complemented by Pinot Noirs and a Viognier.
Next door at Vail Village Arts, Chef Peter Millette of Sapphire Restaurant & Oyster Bar presented two styles of steamed mussels — one in an Avocado Vinaigrette and the other in a Ravigote — paired with two Chardonnays and a Les Pierres.
Further along East Meadow Drive at Masters Gallery, Chef Richard Bailey treated guests to assortment of sushi rolls that included Hamachi, spicy tuna and vegetable, all complemented by tastings of a Riesling and a Pinot Grigio.
Masters had an extra treat in store — a personal appearance by Colorado artists Carrie Fell, internationally famed for her creative depictments of the American West. Her original oil painting, Gentle Leaders, was auctioned by The Connoisseurs Trail for the benefit of Small Champions, a local nonprofit organization that provides recreational opportunities for children with a variety of disabilities. In fact all the proceeds from The Connoisseur’s Trail went to Small Champions.
Ms. Fell spoke with many of the visitors, explaining her works and techniques. She also told me of a party she’s holding at her home in Parker in October entitled the Cowboy Ball. Sounds like a bash!
The evening continued on, with visits to Clagett-Rey Gallery and others. It was the perfect way to begin a memorable Labor Day Weekend in the Vail Valley.
