THIRD ANNUAL TRIUMPH WINTERFEST ICE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION
THIRD ANNUAL TRIUMPH WINTERFEST ICE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION
“are you listening…” by Lawrence Argent & Scott Rella
JANUARY 15, 2010…until the ice melts Gore Creek Promenade, Vail Village, Colorado
Town of Vail, Art in Public Places – It is with great pleasure that the Town of Vail and Triumph Development bring to the residents and visitors of Vail the Third Annual Triumph Winterfest exhibition opening celebration Jan.15. The exhibition entitled, “are you listening…” is composed of approximately seven ice sculptures along the Gore Creek Promenade in the Vail Village and is free and open to the public.
A popular family-friendly event, Triumph Winterfest invites the public to explore the ice installation during the day, as well as in the evening when it is illuminated by energy efficient LED’s.
Renowned artist Lawrence Argent of Denver and famed ice sculptor Scott Rella of the Vail Valley have collaborated again to bring the Triumph Winterfest exhibition to Vail. “are you listening…” is composed of several larger-than-life ice sculptures rendering the human ear.
Exploring the “pathways of listening” Argent poses the questions, “What do we listen to? What or who is creating the sounds we listen to? When we do, how is it filtered through our systems of consciousness and knowledge?” “are you listening…” engages the viewer to contemplate the interpretation of sound and conversation, especially in this day of modern technology.
As the public is invited to explore this installation, the various sounds of the Village will emanate from the peaceful Gore Creek in the background, to the bustle of ski boots, and the murmur of conversations enjoying and discussing this exhibition.
Installation begins the week of Jan. 11 and we invite the public to observe at a distance, as the creative force of Scott Rella and his team transforms the Gore Creek Promenade into an artistic wonderland. The official opening will take place the evening of Jan.15 with the illumination of the exhibition. The lighting ceremony celebrates the completion of the installation and allows the public to peruse the sculptures and meet the artists while warming up by the Gore Creek fire pit. The artists will be available for questions during the ceremony.
Triumph Winterfest has garnered national media attention, as well as recognition for artistic merit. It has been named one of America’s best public art projects by the Americans for the Arts. “are you listening…” will be on view throughout the day and evenings, until the ice melts. Additional events around the Triumph Winterfest are being planned. Heightened security has been arranged as a precaution.
