Colorado Opens the Season
Loveland Ski Area
The 2009-2010 Colorado ski season kicked off at 9 a.m., Wednesday, October 7th, when Loveland Basin open a sole run that attracted more than 100 early-bird skiers.
Arapahoe Basin is scheduled to open tomorrow, Friday the 9th, and its terrain will include some features of its High Divide Terrain Park.
Thanks to chilly, moist weather (the chain law has already been in effect once on Vail Pass and at the Eisenhower Tunnel and more snow is due this weekend), the snowmaking guns are operating on both Vail and Beaver Creek Mountains.
Vail is scheduled for a November 20 opening and Beaver Creek November 25.
As for this winter on the slopes of the Vail Valley, Vail Resorts has initiated a number of items designed for the price conscious visitor.
For example, the ski school will be offering guided tours from 9:15 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Vail and Beaver Creek for a cost about the same as a group lesson, with lift line cutting privileges included.
The tours are focused on giving groups of about five visitors insider knowledge about the terrain, rather than solely teaching ski technique.
Elsewhere on the mountain, all restaurants will start offering a new value meal for $9.95 called "Lunch for Less."
Including an entree, side dish and beverage, the meal varies from day-to-day with combinations such as a wrap and soup or a pasta dish and salad.
In addition, Vail Resorts is offering the Mountain Meal Card, which provides a 20 percent value to any of the company’s on-mountain dining facilities. For example, pre-pay for a $100 dining card, and it will be loaded with $120.
Cards must be purchased before arriving at the resort. See snow for more information.
All this, plus lower charges for some adult and children ski school lessons, add up to some spectacular mountain values this winter in the Vail Valley.
