Fun for the 4th

This weekend is my most anticipated of the summer.

For more than 20 years I have looked forward to the 4th of July “weekend” no matter when the actual date fell.  This year the schedule should be fabulous.  Many friends are coming up from Denver and the festivities should fantastic.
 

I am getting ready for the weekend as I type, it is Wednesday, but my fun will begin tonight.  My friends John & Donna arrived yesterday and tonight we are planning to get together for dinner.  There are several restaurants that have early season specials.  Last night we had a fantastic dinner at Montauk.  Tonight I think we may enjoy the special prices at Avondale or Atwater as a kick-off to the Westin Resort Vail Employee Reunion that...

Birds of Prey Anyone?

The World Cup races in Beaver Creek this past weekend were a great success.  Snowfall the last few days of November were a welcome sight for our community, though the snow did cause the cancellation of the combined races that were scheduled for Thursday, December 4.  The Vail Valley Foundation (www.vvf.org) and Beaver Creek (www.beavercreek.com) provided a world-class experience for the racers, sponsors and fans that flocked to the Colorado high country for the annual events.  On Friday, December 5 the VIP tent at the Downhill proved once again to be host to business leaders of the Vail Valley, international leaders in the ski industry and athletes present, past and future.

The leaves have dropped, but the snow is yet to fly. I am enjoying one of the nicest autumn seasons that I recall. My garden clean up has suffered this year as my re-election campaign and the silly season has taken up much of my weekends. I will be happy when November 5th arrives. I hope that the lawn signs quickly give way to snow banks and the Cheeto munching Kool-aid drinkers’ retreat to their basements for a while.

We have less than six weeks to prepare for the winter ski season and we are holding our collective breath that the snow will fly hard. There is a countywide plan that has been adopted to ease the pain of the Vail Pass closures that we know are coming. It is always refreshing to see countywide planning efforts.
