Sustainability Ball in Vail

Sustainability Ball in Vail

Who says conservation can’t be fun? Scheduled for August 8, The EverGreen Ball and Expo is the Vail Valley’s first sustainable soiree. The event is a fundraiser for the valley’s three most important conservation organizations: The Eagle Valley Land Trust, The Eagle River Watershed Council and the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability. Sponsorship packets, invitation requests and general information are now available at the event’s Web site, www.theevergreenball.org.

The Ball’s honored guest will be Jim Rogers, CEO of Duke Energy Corporation. Jim’s contributions to renewable energy and innovative approaches to clean, sustainable power sources is unmatched in the industry.  Mr. Rogers was named “one of the 50 most powerful people in the world” by Newsweek magazine in their January 2009 issue.  He will most certainly fascinate the crowd with his knowledge of the future of renewables and just where the big companies are headed with all of the exciting new technologies in their field.

“The EverGreen Ball will be the event of the summer season “, said New New Wallace, event chair and development Director at the Eagle Valley Land Trust. “We will be green, gorgeous and glamorous! The first annual EverGreen Ball is definitely the not to be missed summer event”.

From the publicity to the décor and the dance floor, everything about the EverGreen Ball will be as sustainable as possible. The food will be organic, energy consumption and waste will be reduced, and the event is purchasing carbon credits to offset its already small footprint, making it 100 percent carbon-neutral.

Taking place at the Westin Riverfront in Avon under a beautiful big tent, the EverGreen Ball will also play up its sassier shade of green and expand on the theme, rolling out the green carpet for guests, serving green apple martinis and toasting those who choose to don a green ensemble as part of their evening attire.

Prior to the EverGreen Ball that afternoon there will be an Expo and Farmers’ Market outside on the lawn at the Westin. Green businesses — working in the fields of renewable energy, green building, resource conservation, eco-transportation and green home and body products — will showcase their goods and services. Free and open-to-the-public, the Expo is designed to put shoppers in contact with eco-friendly businesses and products. At the Farmers’ Market, local farmers and ranchers will market their homegrown products, exposing consumers to the delicious benefits of buying locally.

Event organizers are committed to “walking the talk” of sustainability, which is why they’re using as much technology as possible to communicate and publicize the event.

“While we’re still using paper this year for our sponsor information and invitations, the paper, ink and printing process will be as eco-friendly as possible,” says Matt Scherr, executive director of the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability and chair of the EverGreen Ball’s Sustainability Audit Committee. “For all other event publicity, we’ll use electronic media as much as possible, and I encourage everyone who wants to be involved in this unprecedented green event to go to our Web site.”

Information about The EverGreen Ball and Expo is available at www.theevergreenball.org or contact the organizers at info@theevergreenball.org.
