Go Run the World
The Vail Symposium’s Unlimited Adventure Series Continues: Go Run the World with Kimi Puntillo
The Vail Symposium continues on Thursday, February 5 at Donovan Pavilion in Vail from 6-7:30p.m. As always, the presentation is free of charge.
Plan on getting there early as the first Adventure Series presentation drew an audience of over 200.
This edition of the Adventure Series focuses on running and if you’re going to run, why not run the world?
There are marathons in Antarctica, at the Great Wall of China, at Everest and even Mount Kilimanjaro. Kimi Puntillo has counted these runs amongst her favorites as she “ran the world”.
Along the way, she conquered two Guinness Book World Records including being the first woman to run marathons on all seven continents.
In Bhutan, global runner Kimi came in second and won a carpet, in Hawaii she ran over fields of lava rock.
At Everest, where the marathon begins at 17,000 feet, she was allowed only one change of clothes for the three-week challenge.
The Great Wall Marathon had more than 60,000 stairs to travel, many of them crumbling. Running these races changed Kimi’s perspective and her life.
In 1995, motivated to make life changes, New Yorker Kimi ran her first marathon.
She hasn’t stopped since! Writing about these adventures has transformed Kimi’s journalism, television producing and marketing consultant career, as she became a globe-trotting journalist adventurer, meeting unforgettable people and visiting far places along the way.
Her new book, Great Races, Incredible Places is scheduled to be released in March.

In between powder runs and tee shots, long-time Vail local Miles Burton, habitually observes local government.
