07/22/09Vail Recreation District hosts 2009 Bill Wright Clay Court Open and Senior Tennis Championships - Registration ends July 26thThe Vail Recreation District (VRD) will host the annual Bill Wright Clay Court Open and Senior Tennis Championships next weekend, July 31 to Aug. 2, at the Vail Tennis Center. The championships will pit players against each other for three days of competition including singles, doubles and mixed matches.Registration ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday (7-26) and is available by calling the Tennis Center at 970-479-2294. Costs are $30 per singles event and $35 per doubles event with a limit of three single events per player and two doubles events per player. Costs also include a Player's Party at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Tennis Center. Additional guests are invited to the party for $10. 02/03/09Vonn Takes First Worlds TitleFresh from a sweep of two races on the Audi FIS World Cup in Germany, the U.S. Ski Team's Lindsey Vonn charged to her first World Championship title, winning the super G at the FIS Alpine Ski World Championships in Val d'Isere, France. 01/12/09Snow Shoeing and Skiing the BeavIt was cold a few weeks ago and I decided to skip riding and take a snowshoe…I’m not sure if any of you have been to the Vail Golf Course Nordic Center, but you should go! I rented snowshoes and took off for a hike! Renting the shoes was only $12! And you can have your choice of walking the trail that is paved or you can explore on your own for no cost at all. Since this was my first time out this year I paid for a ticket to walk the paved track and was off! We hiked for the entire trail even though I was pooped half way through. I decided to keep going for some extra exercise – I was with my friend Kelsie who is a personal trainer – so I couldn’t quit! We went 6 miles round trip – you can of course go many different...
