Mid-Winter Musings
Despite the groundhog’s prediction, spring has sprung early…at least n the Vail Valley. After nearly three months of record snow falls, leaving the slopes with awesome conditions, the sun came out and has stayed out for the past week while temperatures soared into the high 40s and low 50s.
Vail Resorts reports snow bases of more than five feet on both Vail and Beaver Mountains. Needless to say locals and guests are embracing the “spring break” conditions and the weather.
That said, March is traditionally one of our snowiest months.
On European slopes, local racer Lindsey Vonn, a former member of Ski Club Vail and the cover story for our Holiday 2008-09 issue, was crowned both the women’s FIS World Cup downhill and Super G overall titles thus far this season.
She is now expected to take the women’s World Cup overall championship title at the season’s finale later this Month in Are, Sweden. That would one of her many firsts; above all, she would become the only American women to win two back-to-back World Cup overall titles.
Also, look forward to star of the 2006 Turino Winter Olympics for repeat championship performance celebration at the Vancouver Olympics in 2010. Congratulations Lindsey!
