Good day, That’s the most positive thing I’ll be writing today.

As our office staff can attest, I’m not a big fan of blogging. Oh, I’ll probably get there soon, but not at the moment. This cranky old editor intends to remain a cranky old editor. (Where the hell is my typewriter?)

Although I admire some of the blogs I’ve read, many seem to be from the uninformed informing the uninformed.

Moreover, we have enough clutter in our daily lives without blogs about pet peeves and trivial things no one cares about.

Worse, as our newspapers succumb to the economy, I’m wondering where relatively factual information will be coming from. Face it: Newspapers supply the news to bloggers as well. The less news, the more ill informed and opinionated are the blogs.

Mid-Winter Musings

Despite the groundhog’s prediction, spring has sprung early…at least n the Vail Valley. After nearly three months of record snow falls, leaving the slopes with awesome conditions, the sun came out and has stayed out for the past week while temperatures soared into the high 40s and low 50s.

Vail Resorts reports snow bases of more than five feet on both Vail and Beaver Mountains. Needless to say locals and guests are embracing the “spring break” conditions and the weather.

That said, March is traditionally one of our snowiest months.

 On European slopes, local racer Lindsey Vonn, a former member of Ski Club Vail and the cover story for our Holiday 2008-09 issue, was crowned both the women’s FIS World Cup downhill and Super G overall...

Some thoughts about Vail's longtime friend

First of all, our best wishes go out to former U.S. Congressman and U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, who recently was diagnosed with cancer.

Also, a former NFL  for the San Diego Chargers and Boston Buffalo, Kemp has been a longtime part-time resident of Vail.

Above all, he has been a great friend of Vail and has been involved in numerous local such as the organizations, Vail Valley Foundation.

His efforts over the years have helped increase the quality of life for the entire community.

We know he’s a fighter and hope to see him on the slopes very soon.

In fact, he would probably give anything to be on the slopes at the moment.

Vail and Beaver Creek have accumulated near-records snowfalls since Thanksgiving.
